Club Ratings

As of 10/30/2023 the skills rating system used by the Club has changed. The Club will be using the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) as a way for players to get a rating. Members that have an existing Club rating can keep their rating until they decide to try to level-up or move down. Liberty courts 11-18 are reserved for DUPR play Mondays from 4-6pm – no registration is required. See additional resources and contacts at the bottom of this page.

What is DUPR? DUPR is the most accurate and only global rating system in the sport of pickleball. All players regardless of age, gender, location, or skill are rated on the same scale between 2.000-8.000 based on their match results. DUPR is the skill rating system endorsed by the Pro Pickleball Association, the Association of Pickleball Professionals, Major League Pickleball, Pickleball Brackets, Pickleball Tournaments and Pickleball.com.

Why is Our Club Using DUPR to Get a Rating? Using DUPR to rate our club members continues our successful standard of performance-based skill ratings that we used last season. It also makes it easier and more flexible for members to get and maintain a skill rating because you can play games anywhere, anytime with players of similar skills, then just enter the scores into the My DUPR website.

What Will Our Club Use DUPR For? Your new DUPR rating will be used for play in Sun City West Pickleball activities such as competitive group play where a rating is needed.

Will My Current Club Rating Expire? No. Members that have an existing Club rating will keep their Club rating until they decide to try to level-up or want to move down. There will be no new Club rating sessions as in the past.

Do I Have to Use DUPR? NO! Getting a DUPR is optional, however, if you have no rating at all (Club, UTPR, DUPR) and want to play in competitive groups that require a rating you will need to establish one. If you only have a Club rating and want to try to level-up you will need to get a DUPR rating. All participants registering for the Pickleskills+ lesson series other than 2.5 will be required to have a rating. If you are happy playing in Social Groups only, you do not need to be rated at all.

How Do I Get a DUPR? You will get a DUPR rating once you have played and recorded at least 12 games into DUPR and it shows a rating for you. The system will not show a calculated rating for you until you or one of the other players you have played with or against has played against someone that has a valid DUPR profile. We encourage you to play as many different players as possible, and games should be to 11 points or more for the reliable rating.

How Will My Rating Change? Your rating will be recalculated and change over time as you compete in more games and record scores. You will need to play and record games annually to maintain a valid DUPR (6 in 180 days or 12 in 270 days).

Can I Choose My Own Partner? Yes! Your partner’s age or gender doesn’t matter but they should be close to your own skill level as do the players you play against, otherwise the game scores may not count in the DUPR calculations.

Can Anyone Submit a Game Score to DUPR? Yes. You do not have to be a member of a club to submit a score. Recreational and open play games can be submitted to DUPR. However, all players who participate in the game must have DUPR profiles, and all players should agree to submit the game score before the game begins. When players self-report game scores, DUPR will send an email to the opponents asking them to verify the score.

Is DUPR Free? Yes. DUPR profiles are free and there is no cost to submit scores.

Will Tournament Scores Be Automatically Submitted? Any tournaments that use Pickleball Brackets or Pickleball Tournaments Software will automatically submit scores to DUPR. DUPR is syncing its database with tournament results from both software systems, which are now all under the Pickleball.com umbrella.

Will Our Club Help Me Get a DUPR? Yes, in addition to playing games and recording them to DUPR on your own. On Monday afternoons 4-6pm at Liberty Courts 11-18 you can meet and play other players that want to get a DUPR rating. Sessions will be open, running November through March, with no registration required, so the number of players at your level each week will vary. The players you play against just need to have a DUPR account. It will be your responsibility to report game scores to DUPR. If you have ever played in a formal sanctioned tournament, you may already be in the DUPR database. You just need to create an account and claim your profile on the DUPR website (MyDUPR.com). Please spread the word to other players you know to come out and get a DUPR rating! Score sheets will be provided and the ratings team will show you how to enter your scores in DUPR.
